Taylor, Horace (Illustrations by).. 1 First edition. 123 p. Includes illustrations. Tan cloth over boards w/ front artwork, big and bold: orange-red car missing black goose. Black titles. Plates and in-text art, Pen&Ink. Rare in original 1908 edition. Author Julian Street embarks with 3 others--the Grand Duke, the Doctor, and the Actor--on a planned "motor" excursion to several countries in Western Europe and Northern Africa. Their driver and "mechanician" was French, Louis, and could drive in any language, notes the author. It appears the quartet may not have made it out of France. There were some troubling but humorous encounters. The Grand Duke as actually "a hustling American businessman on vacation; the Doctor was not a real doctor but had a professional air and sagacity; the Actor was a real actor, "he told me so himself". Resting after a long year, "he was tall and beautiful and his clothes were immaculate conceptions".
