[The Story of Marian Anderson's Struggle for Racial Justice in the Arts: Includes original autographed photograph of Anderson.] Hardcover and dust jacket. Good binding and cover. She received a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement, Kennedy Center Honros, and the NAACP Image Award. Anderson struggled against racial discrimination during this career. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) infamously refused to allow Anderson to sing to an integrated audience in Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and President Roosevelt instead set up and outdoor concert on April 9, 1939, at the Lincoln Memorial steps on the National Mall. She sang before an integrated crowd of more than 75,000 people and a radio audience in the millions at this concert.
