In 1928 a Soviet icebreakers Malygin and Krassin took part in the rescue operation of the Umberto Nobile's dirigible expedition. On this expedition, the polar aviator Mikhail Babushkin (1893-1938) flew several aerial searches over the Arctic in search of the airship. Flying in difficult meteorological conditions, Babushkin made fifteen landings on the ice. He was one of the first aviators who sat on the ice in 1926.
For this expedition, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
These stories by Babushkin were devoted to this expedition.
Later the aviator also participated in the expedition at SS Chelyuskin in 1933. He died in 1938 in a flight accident.
Rare in such condition.
Provenance: Emiliy Mindlin (1900-1981), poet and journalist.
OCLC locates two copies of this edition: in the University of Chicago Library and the New York Public Library.
