About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Sara Woods: Woods did her writing in Canada, but all her novels were set in her native England. She created three short detective series under three different pseudonyms, but her main claim to fame is the 48 novels in the Anthony Maitland series. This book was published posthumously and is the last Anthony Maitland Mystery.

Susan Dunlap: Californian Susan Dunlap has published 25 novels and three collections of short stories. She writes in two genres, mystery and romance. Her novels, save one, are in one of four series, the longest of which is the Jill Smith Mystery series of ten books. This is the fourth Jill Smith novel.

Desmond Bagley: British writer of mysteries and thrillers, Desmond Bagley began as a worker in the aviation industry before emigrating to South Africa, where he took up writing as a full time career. He published seventeen novels, as well as being a freelance writer and film critic. Bagley died in 1983. This is his final novel published posyhumously.
