London: Whittaker and Co., 1845. vi, 372pp. Octavo. The condensed and abridged edition. Original green blind-stamped cloth with gold gilt lettering stamped to the spine. Coated yellow endpapers. Textblock edges roughly trimmed. Some wear to the boards and along the edges of the boards. Very light and minimal water damage to the cloth on the boards. Some rubbing to the head and tail of the spine with a small tear in the cloth beginning to develop at the tail. Occasional spot of foxing throughout. An inscription from the previous owner to the title page. A worn, but good, copy of a scarce book in the original cloth. Spence 1263. The condensed and abridged version of the original five volume, plus atlas, set. The portion on the Antarctic is of particular interest. 1845
