London: Printed for Private Circulation, 1855. Illustrated with line drawings, a folding coloured map, a folding map printed in blue, pp xx, 507, all edges gilt, a little occasional foxing, otherwise clean internally, contemporary half morocco, marbled sides, raised bands, only very slight signs of wear. The publication was authorised by Queen Victoria who had purchased the manuscript after the author's death. The printing was very limited, probably under 150 copies. There are extensive lists of plants and animals, extending to eighty pages. [A unique copy, extra illustrated with 25 original topographical photographs, probably by the original owner - Charles F.S. Chambers - whose armorial bookplate appears on the front endpaper. Though the images are small, (mainly c. 60mm x 65mm), they have great charm and are largely in good condition with only slight fading. They are all of local interest - Falls of Garrvalt, Birch Wood near Balmoral, Abergoldie Castle etc. They are all neatly indexed in pencil on the contents pages. The second bookplate is of Robert Washington Oates, whose original collection was gifted to the Gilbert White Museum.]. First Edition. Half-Leather. Very Good.

London: Geo. B. Whittaker, 1824. 1824 second edition of this rare, collectible volume. The first of five books in a series by the author "of sketches of village scenes and vividly drawn characters was based upon life in (the village of) Three Mile Cross" where she lived near Berkshire, England. Her Wikipedia biography describes "Her writing has all the charm of unaffected spontaneous humour, combined with quick wit and literary skill." Rubbed gray and brown marbled boards with leather corners and leather extended spine. Backstrip of spine is missing and has been replaced with paper strip with typed title which is peeling from front cover. Leather corners are worn and the embossed design on the leather cornes and spine is worn but still visable. Bumped corners. Marbling on outside pages. 292 surprisingly bright pages. Cell biologist Kristine Bonnevie (1872-1949) was Norway's first female professor and the first woman member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences. She studied with chromosome researcher Theodor Boveri in Germany, and was awarded a PhD in 1906 for her study of sex cells. "The problem of chromosome halving in the sex cells was not well understood at the time, and her work challenged the classic work of the Norwegian cytologists Alette and Kristian Emil Schreiner. In response to criticism by the Schreiners about her chromosomal work, Bonnevie went to Columbia…

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
