About This Item
London: W. Wetton, [s.d]., c.1820s 177pp, [1]. With woodcut frontispiece and four further woodcuts within text. Contemporary tree-calf, gilt, for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, with their blind-stamped supra-libros to upper board. Rubbed, lower board detached, upper board holding by a single binding cord, some loss to spine. Internally clean and crisp. A rare children's book of insects, apparently from the same series of juvenile natural history works as the Dublin editions of titles now considered to have been produced for the Society for Promoting the Education of the Poor of Ireland. It features occasional verses, such as 'The Gnat'; 'The little Gnat, its beauties, may compare, With all its rival brothers of the air...', and 'On Cruelty to Insects'. COPAC records no copies of this London imprint; OCLC adds Florida, Guelph, McGill and UCLA only. . 12mo.

Terms of Sale
Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
