About This Item

1836 Buffalo Bison Cows Goat Sheep Buffalo Antelope Illustrated Jardine Mammalia

Sir William Jardine was a 19th-century Scottish naturalist most known for his extensive series of books on natural history, 'The Naturalist's Library'.

This fine 1836 edition of Jardine's 'Naturalist's Library' is beautifully illustrated with color engravings of the world's mammals! The plates from Jardine's 'Mammals' are exceedingly desirable and are found framed and displayed by themselves. This volume showcases impressive illustrations of numerous large mammals including antelope, goats, sheep, oxen, buffalo and bison, and numerous other domestic and wild bovine.

Worth noting – this volume includes a false title page in addition to the true title page. The false leaf indicates the 'dogs' volume and a later year. This volume is 1836 'Ruminantia'.
