Berlin: Ernst Wasmuth, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Large 8vo 9" - 10. No additional copies available on-line currently. Published in Berlin in 1925 by Ernst Wasmuth, comprising a wonderful survey of Art Nouveau design in France, chosen by one of the leading architects and designers of the era, Henry (Clemens Van de Velde. He provides an Introduction (in German) and then 64 plates (one being double-sided) that are hand-colored and that employ the pochoir technique. A gorgeous survey, stylistically and theoretically, of Art Nouveau in architecture, interior design, design, applied arts, fashion, industry, and showing works by Pierre Chareau, Robert Delaunay, Freyssinet, Marcel Guillemard, Francis Jourdain, Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, Pierre Legrain, Lipska and Martin, Andre Lurgat, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Jean Patou, Henri Sauvage, Ch. Siclis, G. Vuitton--and the list goes on. The author was a Belgian painter, architect and interior designer. Bound as a board portfolio, measuring 8" x 10" wide and tall, respectively, with 12-page text booklet plus 64 loose plates. Front board bowed a bit, light scuffing to and soiling of boards, and with original cloth ties present! Slight dings to board edges, very short closed tears to spine and foot, else structurally sound and quite attractive exterior. This copy if from the personal library of Henry Boehm, with his bookplate inside front flap, ink-stamp, too, and a "received" ink-stamp at title page and verso of each of the 64 plates. 10 pp. of German text, another two of bibliography, and then plate in black and white and full color, from "teemaschine" of Jean Puiforcat to an architecturally lovely garten by Tony Garnier to furniture designs in full color by Franci Jourdain to a hairdo styled by Antoine. Lamps, bookcases, bathroom fixtures, chairs, an automobile, chess pieces, classrooms (in full color), toiletry cases, a young woman golfer and her pleated skirt, Murphy beds, and a freakishly attactive mannequin. Collated, and all 64 plates present.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
