About This Item

Schwartz & Wade (Random House), 2011. 1st Edition 2nd Printing. Hardcover. New/As New. Leo & Diane Dillon color illus.. CONDITION: UNREAD, but not quite perfect, Schwartz & Wade large hardcover (pictorial boards) & dust jacket (in mylar cover), first edition, second printing. The book is perfect, BUT - the DJ shows some light edge wear top & bottom spine with a loss-of-color spot top back edge. I may be able to make this better but no matter, it's there now. The color illustrations by the remarkable Dillons are powerful and have the appearance of block prints. CONTENT: This gorgeous picture book by Newbery Honor winner Patricia C. McKissack and two-time Caldecott Medal-winning husband-and-wife team Leo and Diane Dillon is sure to become a treasured keepsake for African American families. Set in West Africa, this a lyrical story-in-verse is about a young black boy who is kidnapped and sold into slavery, and his father who is left behind to mourn the loss of his son. Here's a beautiful, powerful, truly unforgettable story about family, memory, and freedom.
