For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Heavy chipping to the jacket extremities, rubbing to the flap creases and sunning to the spine. New mylar cover. Very interesting copy in that it contains a monologue written in pencil to the second FEP by an unnamed previous owner outlining a journey taken by aircraft from Berlin to Paris in 1945 in which he visited the WWI battlefield at Arras en route.. RITES has two small indentations on the front pastedown upper corner with two corresponding impressions on the dustjacket flap and a small rubbed spot on the topedge which has caused a tiny nick on the topedge of a few text pages; the book is in Near Fine condition in a Near Fine dustjacket with an archival cover. Original glassine wrapper has a tiny fold in upper left corner, and minor tanning on edges due to age, as shown in picture.I purchased this copy in 1982 at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, when they hosted Ed Ruscha's first major museum retrospective.
