About This Item
Oxford: Printed at the University Press, 1914. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Oxford, Printed at the University Press, 1914. 'Nonp. 48mo [nonpareil quadragesimo] India Paper' (for the uninitiated, very small print in a very small book on very thin paper), 612 pages. Overlapping limp morocco lettered in gilt on the front cover and spine, and ruled in blind on all surfaces; all edges gilt; leather a little rubbed and marked; front free endpaper lightly creased; an excellent copy. Mounted on the front pastedown is a small presentation plate, printed in blue ink on white paper: 'Presented to the Members of the NSW Contingent of Australian Imperial force, by Friends of The British and Foreign Bible Society ... Sydney, July, 1915' (followed by a quote from the late Lord Roberts FM). Most of the narrow bottom margin below the printed border has been torn away (removing most of a hand-written name); overall, in excellent condition.
