About This Item

New York: Harper & Row, 1971. For those who love international cuisine, Craig Claiborne's superlative selections will have food-lovers cooking up a storm. This clean, attractive Stated First Edition (and if it's NOT stated on the copyright page, it ISN'T a "First") is in close to Fine condition with minimal shelf rubbing at the spine tips. It also has a bookplate from the original owner on the front endpaper. This hefty volume has two-tone panels and spine that are green cloth on top and gray cloth on the bottom (click on photo) with die-stamped silver spine lettering and a silver signature of Craig Claiborne on the front panel. The binding is tight and secure, and the pages are clean and bright, with no tears or stains. The unclipped dust jacket has the book's original price of $12.50 as well as a special gift price of $10.95 if the book were purchased through December 31, 1971. The dust jacket is in Very Good- condition with shelf rubbing on the edges, and repaired tears on the top and bottom of spine, as well as a few small chips. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleeve. The book includes 32 full-page color photos, as well as vignette drawings by James Spanfeller throughout. The book is arranged by order of countries and their cuisine, from Armenia to the United States, with forty-five countries included. The book measures 7 7/8 by 9 1/2 inches (NOTE: The far more common book club editions available measure only 5 3/4 by 8 1/2 inches, have 726 pages, lack the two-tone binding, and were often cheaply produced. Later trade editions, with higher retail prices, also had one-color bindings. Since some non-first copies are currently being advertised on as "Firsts," a buyer should protect himself and email questions to sellers before purchasing.) This Stated First Edition volume, has 599 pages, due to its larger size, with thousands of mouth-watering recipes. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good -. Illus. by James J. Spanfeller. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
