London: The Folio Society, 2015. First Edition . Leather. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. The Folio Society edition of 'News from Nowhere' has been reproduced in facsimile from a copy of The Kelmscott Press edition held by the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow. The original is dated 1892 in the colophon, and was limited to 300 copies printed on paper. This sumptuous Folio Society edition has been printed in black and red on Book Laid Ivory paper by Memminger Mediencentrum AG, Germany, and bound by Real Lachenmaier, Germany, in full black leather blocked in gold with a design by Neil Gower. All edges gilt. Blue-grey endpapers. Black slipcase. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A fine copy without flaws. All orders professionally packed, tracked and/or signed-for, and insured.
Synopsis
News from Nowhere (1890) is a classic work combining utopian socialism and soft science fiction written by the artist, designer and socialist pioneer William Morris. In the book, the narrator, William Guest, falls asleep after returning from a meeting of the Socialist League and awakes to find himself in a future society based on common ownership and democratic control of the means of production.
