About This Item
London: Chatto & Windus,, 1937. First edition, first impression, of this cult classic of night-time climbing on the roofs of Cambridge colleges, which has proved an inspiration for generations of urban explorers. The first impression of October 1937 is very uncommon and much sought after; more commonly encountered is the November reprint. The improbably named author "Whipplesnaith" was in fact a certain Noël Howard Symington, of King's College. Octavo. Finely bound by the Chelsea Bindery in black morocco, spine lettered in blue metallic foil, twin rule to turn-ins in blue metallic foil, blue endpapers, gilt edges. Half-tone frontispiece from a photograph, 27 half-tone leaves printed on both sides. A fine copy.
