About This Item

Chicago, Illinois: Time, Inc. - Andrew Heiskell, Publisher, 1967. Scarce iconic issue signed by Truman Capote at front cover. Rare early signature. Very attractive. Presented in this issue, with eerie reality, is the story of the on-set production of Capote's novel at the scene of the murders. Moderate cover, edge wear; address label removed w/some cover material. Pages fine. Bind good. Striking framed display behind glass in satin black frame. Also included is an unsigned example of same issue for reading. Complete and in very good condition. An intriguing snapshot of the time. Many vintage adverts for automobiles, liquor, cigarettes, big business, travel. Oversize 11" X 14" format. Insured post. Capote's In Cold Blood, from which film is based upon, is a true account of a multiple murder and its consequences. In it, he details the 1959 slaying of Herbert Clutter, a wealthy farmer from Holcomb, Kansas; his wife, and two children. When Capote learned of the quadruple murder before the killers were captured, he decided to travel to Kansas and write about the crime. Bringing his childhood friend and fellow author Harper Lee along, together they interviewed local residents and investigators assigned to the case and took thousands of pages of notes. The killers, Richard "Dick" Hickock and Perry Smith, were arrested not long after the murders, and Capote ultimately spent six years working on the book. It is considered the originator of the non-fiction novel and the forerunner of the New Journalism movement.. Signed by Subject. First Edition. Soft Cover. Very Good. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.
