Michael Joseph, London, 1949. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Shrimati Arnakali E. Carlile. A long poem about Noah, the Ark and the animals who sailed within. "The poem is made of words from shanties, poems, songs, from puns to the Book of Revelation, but, for all its lightness, it is a serious poem and the animals have no need of words, each in their own way they are the Word made flesh, but man is gifted with a voice and he must speak. This is the story of the dawn of words in man; the man is Ham, the second son, plain man, every man." -- from front fold over panel blurb. Rubbing to the backstrip edges, top corners and lower book edges. Browning to the top corners with browning of the text block edges and pages.
