Hardcover. xvi, 290p., navy blue cloth boards stamped in silver, 7.5x5.5 inches; slight spine tilt, some foxing on top-edge, owner inscription on free endpaper (1892) alongside some pencil notation, a few signatures pulled (attached), else in good condition. Opening with an eye-catching and gruesome scene, this society novel is set in Victorian England. Taking on various social problems, the author emphasizes good deeds as the true form of Christianity. *Wright 3982.
