Shelton MacKenzie; the author, John Wilson was a Professor of Moral Philosophy in University of Edinburgh, etc. Contains a series of imaginary colloquies and dialogues, which first appeared in Blackwood's Magazine in the early 19th century. The scene is usually set in Ambrose's Tavern in Edinburgh, and the central characters are "Christopher North" (Wilson himself), "Timothy Tickler" (based on Robert Sym, 1750-1840, previously a Writer to the Signet), and the "Ettrick Shepherd" (based on James Hogg).
