The novel, of medieval setting, and starring Guglielmo da Baskerville, a Franciscan friar, and the Benedictine novice Adso da Melk, narrator of the story, was a worldwide success and was adapted for the big screen by Jean Jacques Annaud with Sean Connery as the lead actor.
