About This Item
New York: St. Martin's Press, 1993. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. This bibliomystery is the second novel in Monfredo's historical mystery series set in the 1850s and '60s in Seneca Falls in Upstate New York, site of the first Women's Rights Convention and a stop on the Underground Railroad. It features, as did her first book, Glynis Tryon, town librarian. Glynis, facing her own problems as well as national issues including slavery, is also involved in the town's first theater production, a perfomance of "Macbeth," which comes to loom large in the story. Signed on the title page by Monfredo with her characteristically gracefull signature just below her printed name which has been crossed out with a single ink line. The upper corner of the fep has been clipped, o/w the boards and text are clean, tight, square; the price-clipped dustjacket shows considerable edgewear, particularly at the spine ends but no major tears or chipping; there is a nearly invisible, two-inch, razor-thin cut in the center of the dj's back panel that did no damage to the book. With all that said, book and jacket are still quite presentable in a brodart protector.
