Collection of Chandler's writings, both public and private, from the author's personal notebooks, including early versions of descriptions, ideas and anecdotes later used in his classic noir tales like "The Big Sleep", "Farewqell, My Lovely" and "The Blue Dahlia". In addition, the book offers selections of pickpocket lingo and jailhouse slang, satires and parodies (including one of Hemingway's "The Sun Also Rises"), thoughtful essays, and the full text of "English Summer, A Gothic Romance". This final piece is illustrated by Edward Gorey. Fine in crisp dust jacket with a touch of toning along the lower front gutter fold.
