Good binding and cover. Soiling to vellum and page ends. Clean, unmarked pages. Cordier Sinica 40. Louis le Comte was a French Jesuit who participated in the 1687 French Jesuit mission to China under Jean de Fontaney. Returning to France in 1691, he began writing his Nouveau Memoire Sur L'etat Present de la Chine, which was published in Paris in 1696. It caused part of the great debate within the Chinese Rites Controversy.
