Bound in brown, polished half-leather over blue and gold marbled boards; spines in six compartments; compartments, tooled in gilt; set compartment in red leather, lettered in gilt; volume compartment in olive-green leather, lettered in gilt. All edges marbled. Marbled EPs. Leather rubbed, most notably at extremities. Spines lightly faded. Foxing to marbled edges. Textblocks with some foxing, largely early and late, occasionally at the margins. Beautiful sketch of a woman's face on the verso of the rear-blanco in vol.V (Although it does not appear to be in ink, we have opted not to erase it. It is striking!) Each volume illustrated with engraved plates: vol.I with seven illustrations; vol.II with seven illustrations; vol.III with six illustrations; vol.IV with three illustrations; vol.V with seven illustrations; vol.VI with frontispiece; vol.VII with vignette title; vol.VIII with vignette title.
