About This Item

St. John's Newfoundland: Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour, 1978. Second Printing. Pictorial Cover. Very Good +/No Jacket. 117 p.; VG+, clean, unmarked, glossy card covers with map of Atlantic coast on front. Many B & W photos, graphs, etc. A report on the consequences of Joey Smallwood's efforts to industrialize the Newfoundland economy. Nfld. folklore has it that he promised "two jobs for every Newfoundlander" and urged fishermen to "burn their boats" (which Smallwood denied). An important resource which may cast some light on recent political manoeuvers by the current Premier of Newfoundland. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
