This history of the nude image since the invention of photography in the 1850s to the 1970s contains work by a "who's who" of photographers including Brigman, Bellocq, Muybridge, Weston, Basch, Halsman, Greene, Lange, Krims, Man Ray, which runs to over 70 artists in full-page, full-color as well as black & white. Includes index of photographers. First edition stated. About 8 3/4 x 11 1/4 inches, 254 pages bound in cream cloth-covered boards with white lettering on front cover, black lettering on spine and pink end pages. Dustjacket's front panel features full color female nude by George Adams behind white lettering for title and author. Back panel contains seven b & w thumbnail nude photos. Top edge of boards are slightly age-yellowed and text edges slightly soiled. O/w boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked. Hinges intact, binding firm. Dj is well-worn along edges and spine ends with several tears and chipping at corners and spine ends. Some light age-tanning and soiling along top edge, and lower corner of front flap clipped though original price in upper corner still present. Overall, Dj is 95% whole with damage limited to edges and margins. It is now in Brodart protector. This is a book that should belong to anyone who collects nude art in any medium.
