About This Item
London: Faber and Faber, 1970. First edition of the second book in the author's Revolt of Aphrodite series. Octavo, original cloth. Near fine in a near fine dust jacket. Consisting of two novels, Tunc and Nunquam, Durrell's The Revolt of Aphrodite series deviated significantly from his earlier style with more direct allusions reflecting current political tensions, particularly the May 1968 general strike in Paris. "[Durrell] has never handled words better than in some of the scenes here... And Durrell's very personal voice, the poet's voice, and the novelist's handicap carries again and again, in scenes of wild and deliberate fantasy" (G.S. Fraser, New York Statesman).
