Hutchinson & Co, 1927. 1st Edition 1st Impression. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Bret, Harold. [1927]. First edition, first impression (true first). 192pp. With colour plate frontispiece and four further colour illustrations, all by Harold Brett. Red cloth boards with gilt titles front and spine (rounded at corners, lightly rubbed at edges, mottled markings along leading edge and verso but else strong, firmly bound and square). Internally neat, clean, tight and bright, barring corner crease to front endpaper. In its original, unclipped, dust jacket (chipped and rubbed at edges, small crack on spine, shelf worn). Jacket fitted with archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong its life. It is not adhered to the book or to the jacket. This novel was turned into a British Film in 1936, released under the title The Marriage of Corbal. A short suspense romance set during the French Revolution. Glorious, unusual, illustrated endpapers.
