Former owner is social anthropologist Wyatt MacGaffey, and his address label is found on the first endpaper. . Olfert Dapper was a geographical researcher of 17th century Holland. He is considered the first writer to adopt an interdisciplinary approach to his research that avoided ethnocentric views and value judgements about the societies he described. His best known work is Description of Africa, published in 1686 in Amsterdam. The present work describes Dapper's life and work and concludes with a 285 page abridgement of Description of Africa. Illustrated with photographs, maps, and drawings from the original. Text is in French. . Publication Series. 4to 11" - 13" tall. 375 pages. M0 .
