About This Item

London: J. Debrett, 1784. Leather. Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A smartly bound interesting look at the commerce of the United States, written by the politician John Baker Holroyd. This work is an interesting look into the commerce of the American states. The volumes looks into details at the trade of books, woolens, buttons, tin, medicines, wine, rice, iron, coffee, molasses, flour, as well as the trade between the States and various countries in the world. The volume confused on the year 1773, during which trade of staple commodities was prosperous, in comparison to the disastrous year a decade later in 1783, when this work was originally published. Written by John Baker Holroyd, the Earl of Sheffield. Holroyd was a politician who is best remembered as being a close friend and the literary executor of Edward Gibbon, who he met travelling in Europe. With eleven tables, ten of which have folding tables. In a smart binding from King's College London. Collated using Copac, complete. Rebacked with the original half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Crest of King's College London to the tail of spine. Externally, smart. Minor rubbing and marking to the boards and to the spine. Institutional stamps and labels to the front pastedown. A very little loss to the fore edge of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Page are bright with the odd scattered spot, though spots are heavier to the folding plates. Institutional stamp to the verso of the title page, which has offset to the facing page. Light edgewear to the folding plates. Very Good
