About This Item
A nice collection of early American imprints by Christopher Sower, notable printer of religious materials in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Includes works by Thomas Bromley and Thomas Hartley, usually found bound together, along with an early anti-slavery pamphlet by Anthony Benezet (1713-1784). Benezet was a leading Quaker abolitionist, founder of the Negro School at Philadelphia and of the Society for the Relief of Free Negroes Unlawfully Held in Bondage, the first American anti-slavery society. His tract here was one of the earliest printed anti-slavery tracts in America.
