Edited by Ralph Shirley and published in London, the journal was devoted to the investigation of supernormal phenomena and the study of psychological problems. It was published under many different names from 1905 to 1951. Includes articles by Arthur Edward Waite, co-creator of the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck and author of the Pictorial Key to Tarot; Franz Hartmann, Florence Farr, Alfred J. Pearce and many other 20th century spiriutualists and occultists. Compiled serial journal, reviews, correspondence, and editorials. Ralph Shirley (1865-1946) was a British pioneer in the publication of occult and mystical literature. He was born at Oxford, England, December 30, 1865, of aristocratic stock, brother of the eleventh Earl Ferrers and a direct descendant of Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex and educated at Winchester and New College, Oxford University. January 1905 was vol.1, no.1, premier issue and ran for several years. Formerly owned by Alfred Pearce, noted 19th century astrologer. Toning to extremities, evidence of dampstaining, must, chipping to wrappers, otherwise tight, bright, and unmarred. Various paging, illus. (portraits, charts). Annotations. Bound in original printed wrappers. Issues January 1905, September 1906, May 1907, March 1908 [broken run of four single issues].
