Birmingham, West Midlands: Mercia Cinema Society, 1985. Book. Good. Hardcover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Blue hardcover with title in gilt on spine. Condition: Good, with general light shelfwear to covers. Some creasing to front endpper. Two small areas to front pastedown where some sellotape has been removed, taking off the top surface layer of paper. Dustjacket condition: Good, with general shelfwear. Not price-clipped. No inscriptions. Loosely inserted is an original letter dated 17th January 1989 from Basil Herring, one of the architects working for the practice of Harry W Weedon, to a previous colleague, Clarence Smith, reminiscing about working with Weedon. Also loosely inserted are a couple of photocopied letters dated 1937 confirming Clarence Smith's appointment as junior assistant in the office of Harry Weedon.176pp. Many b/w photographic illustrations. This book is a pictorial survey of the cinemas which were specifically built for the original Odeon circuit, and not those taken over by the company and renamed Odeon. The circuit was founded by Oscar Deutsch in 1933, although the first Odeon cinema appeared in the Birmingham suburb of Perry Barr in 1933..
