Washington, DC: GPO, 1880. First edition. Hardcover. Orig. dark green cloth. Very good.. 201 pages in text. Large 4to, 29 x 23 cm. Thirty-four tinted lithographs including a host of fold-out plates, and forty wood-cut illustrations in the text. The field work extended from the Missouri River to the Pacific Coast, and covered a decade with the first fossil discovered in December, 1870, near the Smoky Hill River, in Western Kansas. Text and plates clean overall with dust soiling to fore-edge and lower page margins of descriptive text to each plate. Binding tight and firm.
