About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1958. Second Printing. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good/Good+. Nicholas Hadji-Kyriaco Ghika, Miriam Woods (dust jacket). 8vo. Pp. xxxviii, 824. Illustrated with Ghika line drawings. Introduction, synopsis and notes by the translator. Dark blue cloth, titles and rules on the spine, titles and decorations on the cover, stamped in gilt. Spine titles somewhat dulled, edges a tad age toned, owner name in pencil on ffep. In the three-color illustrated dust jacket with price $10 intact on the front flap. Dust jacket is a bit rubbed, with edge-wear, and a closed tear at spine head continuing onto the rear panel. Gold background color retains brilliance. Former owner name in pencil on the front free endpaper ("D. J. Lobrano") is that of Dorothy Lobrano Guth, goddaughter of E. B. White, longtime New Yorker staffer and editor of The Letters of E. B. White. First published in Greek in 1938, this epic poem's translation into English was made in close collaboration with the author. Dust jacket preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
