Host of engraved plates by Delannoy and Massard after G. Staal. Moliere gave French comedy a serious face -- his gallery of human nature, particularly the hypocrite and poseur are imprimaturs. Considered the creator of modern French comedy, his plays are performed at the Comedie-Francais more than those of any other playwright. A clean, bright set internally, minor rubbing to extremities and corners, raised bands, gilt decorated spine panels, marbled endpapers.
