Quarto, half black morocco, with raised bands and gilt- and blind-stamped rules to spine, marbled paper-covered boards. Leather worn at corners and spine; joints tender; gilt bright. Bookplate of astronomers Newton and Margaret Mayall to front pastedown. Occasional light foxing to text. Joseph Louis Lagrange (1736- 1813), Italian mathematician and astronomer, developed the mean value theorem and Lagrangian mechanics, and solved the isoperimetrical problem.
