About This Item
1862. [PRANG, Louis, publisher]. OFFICERS OF OUR UNION ARMY AND NAVY. Their lives, their portraits. Vol. 1 [all published]. Boston: L. Prang & Co., 1862. First edition, and the only volume produced of this series. Illustrated with 30 lithographic portraits of Union commanders. 148 pp., + [4] pp. publisher's advertisements; the text includes separate lists of Union and Rebel victories for the years 1861 and part of 1862. 16mo., original cloth, light brown, blind-stamped borders to boards and bands to spine, gilt-stamped title to upper board, yellow endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to ffep. Text leaves and plate are clean and fresh; although one leaf (p.101-2) is creased with a small marginal chip. The cloth shows a few, faint spots of dampstaining; and it is worn through in small spots at crown, heel, and corners. The spine is lightly sunned and askew. Nonetheless, a very good copy of an early Prang publication. (Sabin 56755).
