About This Item

Mannington, WV: Published by the Author / Charles Austin Whiteshot, 1905. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover black cloth boards with gilt on front and spine. An absolutely beautiful copy which could be considered as-new. This copy was discovered in the spring of 1980 still sealed in the publishers crate at a old book company warehouse in Shepherdstown, WV. The wooden crate is no longer around but one of the original printing books survived, which is what is available here. Pebbled black cloth boards are clean and corners are crisp except for two issues on the rear board: There's a light scuff near the bottom edge and a small hole in the gutter of the rear exterior spine area that can be easily filled in (see last photo). The binding is tight as book was never used, pages are clean and corners are sharp. The book is so perfect it looks like a reprint but it is the actual 1905 edition and may be the finest one in existence. As this book was never owned by a private party and obviously has no handwriting or markings of the like. The only flaws would be a few small marks on the exterior page edges which have been there since the day it was removed from the shipping crate. After we purchased it in 1980 it was then packed away until now. The images of the exterior did not do credit to the brightness of the gilt text on the front and spine. Please note: this is a large and heavy book and does not qualify for the Biblio Global Shipping program.

Terms of Sale

Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.

We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
