About This Item

Rungsted Kyst (Denmark): Anders Nyborg, 1973 In 8s (179 x 103 mm): Pp (pi)[i-vi], [i-ii], [1] 2-17 [18-32]. (Leaf [1]1 is laid down; pages [i-iii] are blank.) Publisher's patterned boards (suggesting bearspaw-prints), brown spine unlettered, plain wove lower endpapers, no headbands, all edges trimmed and plain. *** ONLY EDITION IN ANY EUROPEAN LANGUAGE; INCLUDING FOUR MORAL FABLES IN KALATDLISUT (GREENLANDIC) AND DANISH PROSE. The Kalatdlisut text was originally printed at Godthab (Nuuk, Greenland) in 1860. The present edition comprises a facsimile of the Godthab edition (pages [i]-[18]), together with a modern Danish translation by Frederik Nielsen (pages [19-32]). One of 1,200 copies. The author was the son of Peter Kragh (1794-1883), the famous Greenland missionary and translator of numerous Biblical and devotional texts 1822 &c. The younger Kragh was himself a missionary at Upernavik 1849-58; apart from the present work, he contributed to a volume of meteorological observations made in Greenland. While not uncommon in libraries, this edition seems to be quite scarce in the trade. -- Series: Gronlandsk bogskat. -- Reference: OCLC 35684741. .

About Jay Dillon Rare Books + Manuscripts

Jay Dillon Rare Books + Manuscripts is a private, research-intensive rare-book dealer of forty years' experience in and around New York, specialized in exceptional books, manuscripts, and cultural property. Jay Dillon has been responsible for selling or appraising more than $100 million worth of books and manuscripts spanning some three thousand years. In 1989 Jay Dillon was the editor and principal author of a richly annotated catalogue that was hailed in the English press as one of the ten best books -- of any kind -- published that year. In 1994 he was invited to narrate the Discovery Channel program on the history of monopoly; and four years later he was consulted by the Zapruder family in connection with their famous film of the assassination of President Kennedy -- which, as it turned out, Mr Dillon valued more accurately than any other appraiser. The firm maintains a wide and productive network of relationships both among private collectors and in the trade; and we are currently engaged in building a number of outstanding private collections for our clients. Books and manuscripts offered to the public are mainly duplicates from our clients' libraries, or otherwise surplus to their needs. Our appraisal services include formal appraisals for insurance, estate-settlement, and tax purposes. For details please contact Dillonbook@AOL.com.
