London: Charles Dilly, 1784. A New Edition. Hardcover. Good. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and pretty sturdy yet. Marbled paper over boards, heavily rubbed leather-backed, rubbed gilt lettering to spine. Edges, tips rubbed and scuffed. Some inscriptions inside front flap, moderately toned interior, else clean and unmarked. Some signatures pulling, strings showing slightly. Apparently missing a half-title. Published first in 1777. Clara Reeve (23 January 1729 â 3 December 1807) was an English novelist best known for this novel but also was well known and respected for her translations and literary criticism including The Progress of Romance (1785). She was also "a contemporary of the Bluestockings ladies of Elizabeth Montague's circle" (Wikipedia). xi, [1], 2-263 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
