About This Item

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1910. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Octavo; pp. xvi, (ii), 655 with appendix and index; Illustrated; frontispiece portrait and fourteen photographs and facsimiles; three quarter crushed brown morocco and green boards, top edge gilt and green patterned endpapers; A very good or better copy. Bright and sound. Platt was the distinguished Republican senator from Connecticut and a loyal supporter of Theodore Roosevelt. He urged TR's nomination in 1904. Platt championed sound money and fought hard in the free-silver debates, as well as tariff reform and diplomatic relations with Latin America. Great insight into the dynamic of the Senate during TR's administration with giants like Foraker, Lodge, Hanna and the like.
