Small octavo, x, 389pp. Blue cloth, border stamped in blind on front cover, title in gilt on front cover and spine. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Solid text block, faint toning to endpapers, light rubbing to corners and spine, a near fine example. Complete with 19 full-page plates, including frontispiece. In publisher's dust jacket, faint soiling to front and rear panels, slight chipping to corners and spine, toning to spine, one short closed tear to rear panel, a very good example. This biography, written by the subject's daughter, Sophie Radford De Meissner, outlines the naval achievements of Rear Admiral William Radford (1809-1890). Radford served during the Mexican-American War and fought for the Union in the Civil War despite being born in Virginia.
