About This Item

Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Publishing, 1974 Genealogical Publishing, Baltimore, MD. 1974. Hardcover. Reprint of the 1893 edition with an index added. Book is tight, square, and unmarked but for a F/O name on the front pastedown. Book Condition: Very Good +; six dogeared pages; slight shlefwear. No DJ. Blue buckram boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. 504 pp 8vo. The author was a physician to the region in the 1850s, the region's unofficial historian, and possessed a keen interest in genealogy. This book was compiled from regional newspapers, obituaries and feature articles, interviews, anecdotes, reminiscences, and research in the original records. It contains lengthy sketches of the early families in the Monongahela Valley, each showing, in substance, family members and their relationships, dates and places of birth, marriage, deaths, occupations, standing in the community, and places of migration to and from the Valley. A clean very presentable copy.
