Gilt title on spine with picture in black of man with his hands spread up, wearing a loin cloth; gilt title and black decoration on front cover. Hinges of front and back pastedowns cracked. Inscription of previous owner dated 1873 on front free endpaper. Some foxing at top of title page, and elsewhere occasionally in the text. Originally 22 plates, now missing plate facing page 95, 'Blaize Purchasing the Infallible Antidotes', two other plates loose. Wear to cover extremities..
