This notice is opposite the title page: "A large portion of the last part of Oliver Twist having been sent to the American Publishers in manuscript, they hasten to place before the public the work in the present form. At the same time, they have to regret that the illustrations by Cruikshank, were not ready to accompany the manuscript from London. On their receipt, no delay will take place in laying the remainder of the illustrated edition before the public." This issue has no illustrations. Original pink cloth spines and tan paper-covered boards with both spine plates present. 2 pp. ads, iv, 13-224 pp.; iv, 3-196 pp., 16 pp. ads. Bookplates of Gerald Mygatt. Vol. 1: 1.75-inches of lower spine missing, covers held by cords, 1 leaf loose, rear 6 leaves with some nibbling in the margin, some spotting. Vol. 2: Covers held by cords, internals fairly nice. Fair. We have collated the volumes, and nothing is missing. The gap between iv and 13 in Vol. 1 would be used in later issues for added materials such as the illustrations.
