1820. First Polynesian Ambassador to England, lithograph portrait. Omai traveled with Captain Cook as an interpreter on his 2nd & 3rd voyages, and was the physical embodiment of the "noble savage" in London Society for a time. Plate 15 of an unknown German work. The portrait by C. C. A. Last shows Omai in flower robes with a turban. Paper 13 3/4 x 10 1/4", very good condition.
