First Edition/First Printing. 16 pages. Artist Book. The 64th title in the now-legendary "One Picture Book" Series by Nazraeli Press, one of the most superb ongoing projects of contemporary art photography. Limited Edition of 500 numbered and signed copies. Accompanied by one tipped-in, original print by the artist/photographer (hence the Series' name). An elegant production by Chris Pichler: Small-size volume format. Titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Mark Steinmetz. There is no text. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Mark Steinmetz's "Italia Cronaca Di Un Amore". His contribution to the One Picture Book Series. A true romance despite our post-modern photographic world of satire and irony. "Mark Steinmetz, whose recently-completed trilogy of books, 'South Central', 'South East', and 'Greater Atlanta', is the subject of wide critical acclaim, brings 'Italia: Cronaca di Un Amore'. This is an unending story, conveyed here in 15 photographs" (Publisher's blurb). Steinmetz's lovely photographs of Italian women, romantic couples, and a family on holiday, shot against the scenic beauty of the country, have a cinematic quality that recalls the work of Italy's legendary film masters: Vittorio de Sica as well as Roberto Rossellini, Michelangelo Antonioni (who made a film called "Cronaca di Un Amore") as well as Federico Fellini, Pier Paolo Pasolini as well as Bernardo Bertolucci. Steinmetz is paying tribute in each photograph to three great loves simultaneously: For Italy, her people (especially her women), and her great artistic tradition. An absolute "must-have" title for Mark Steinmetz collectors. This copy is one of the Limited Edition, indicated as such in pencil on the Back Limitation Page. It comes with a stunningly beautiful original color print that is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on verso by Mark Steinmetz. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. 14 duotone plates, 1 original print. Mark Steinmetz's "South" Trilogy is now widely regarded as one of the greatest photographic projects of our time. One of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MARK STEINMETZ AND ONE PICTURE BOOK TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1590052862.
