About This Item
6 Volumes in 2, folio, period full calf, spines gilt, raised bands, engraved frontispiece in volume one, engraved titles. Some wear to extremities, corners showing, a few chips and cracks at the joints and spine, some minor staining, normal aging, otherwise very good. Bernard (1190-1153) was the founding abbot of the Clairvaux Abbey, and is considered one of the truly great historical spiritual leaders. He entered the Abbey at Clairvuax in 1112, and was a strong supporter of Cistercian reform. This rather handsomely bound set is a 17th century edition of his collected writings.
