Uniformly bound in tan polished calf, ruled in gilt, with leather labels on spine titled in gilt. Bindings shelf worn, with occasional scuffs, spines somewhat darkened and leather label missing from volume 5. Early gift inscription. Bookseller's ticket.
The most successful librettist of his day, Metastasio collaborated with Pergolesi, Alessandro Scarlatti, and Leo; Farinelli and Metastasio worked closely together; his plays were set to music by Johann Christian Bach and Luigi Cherubini; and his Clemenza di Tito was borrowed by Mozart.
